EL (English Learner) Program
Valders Area School District EL (English Learner) Program
School Board Mission: It is the mission of the Valders Area School District to meet the educational needs of all students and to help all students accomplish educational goals which are significant, durable, and transferable.
School Board Goals: The school board will foster the EL program vision and will continue to encourage the academic growth of all students.
EL/ML Program Vision, Mission, and Values: The language program for all VASD students will promote growth, build a platform for transferable skills, and invest capital within all students.
Language Programs: The Valders Area District’s mission is that every student in the district who has a primary language other than English and who is identified as limited English proficient (LEP) be provided with the opportunity to participate in an English Learner (EL) program. The EL program supports limited English proficient students to become competent in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language. With the infusion of basic interpersonal social language, appropriate accommodations and scaffolding, and content-based instruction, students will find success in the academic setting with the intent to one day be able to participate fully in society.
Depending on the students’ needs, English Learners in grades K through 12 receive English instruction with content-based ESL language support, classroom support, co-teaching, and/or small group support. Classroom Instruction is infused with the WIDA ELD standards and the Wisconsin Academic Standards.
English learner services are provided by the District's certified TESOL teacher and VASD staff. For more information regarding the EL Program, please contact Traci Van Den Heuvel, District EL Coordinator at (920) 775-9510 ext 1115 (ES) or (920) 775-9520 ext 2225 (MS/HS).
