The Valders Music Department consists of an elementary Kindergarten to 4th grade program, a middle school 5th - 8th grade program and a high school 9th - 12th grade program. Sometimes these groups overlap, such as the 5th-12th "Music in Our Schools" concert every March, or when elementary students participate in the high school musical.
The Valders Music program is rich with tradition and history. The band program was begun in the 1929-1930 school year, and a newspaper clipping reported, “The school never before has had a band and it must bring the results we all hope for. Our school never says “can’t, and we shall find that this new organization shall receive hearty support from both within and without.” This has continued to be true of band and choir at all three levels in the district. The only thing constant about the program has been change. Parents, administrators and staff have always been willing to try new ideas or concert venues, often with the help of the Valders Music Boosters.
The Valders High School Instrumental program has received incredible support from the community in past years for yearly travel, including the Indy 500 Parade and the Independence Day Parade in Washington D.C. The High School Band and Choir has historically traveled to Florida to perform during Spring Break - something the entire community has looked forward to every four years since 1992.
