It is the responsibility of the parent to notify the school concerning the reasons for the student's tardiness or absenteeism. If we do not hear from the parent by this specific time, we will make parental contact at the home or at work.
If the child must leave school for a doctor or dental appointment, please notify the school by phone or note as to the time of the appointment. It is encouraged that if your child is at a doctor or dental appointment to bring in a written medical excuse signed by the physician.
Students who come late or leave early must sign in and out in the middle school office.
Students with pre-planned absences, such as family vacations, must have a Planned Absence Form turned in to the middle school office before leaving. Failure to do so will result in unexcused absences.

The district attendance policy is described in School Board Policy 5200. Here is an excerpt: “State law requires the Board of Education to enforce the regular attendance of students. Further, the Board recognizes that the District’s educational program is predicated upon the presence of the student and requires continuity of instruction and classroom participation. The regular contact of students with one another in the classroom and their participation in a well-planned instructional activity under the tutelage of a competent teacher are vital to this purpose. All children between six (6) and eighteen (18) years of age shall attend school regularly during the full period and hours, religious holidays excepted, that the school in which the child is enrolled is in session until the end of the term, quarter, or semester of the school year in which the child becomes eighteen (18) years of age, unless they fall under an exception under State law, this policy, or administrative guideline issued under this policy. A child who is enrolled in five (5) year-old kindergarten shall attend school regularly, religious holidays excepted, during the full period and hours that kindergarten is in session until the end of the school term.” Full policy information is available in School Board Policy 5200.
