Dear Parents:
After meeting with the Valders High School music staff and district administration, it is with great sadness and disappointment that we are canceling the Florida trip in March. Currently, Disney Performing Arts is not confirming any outside performing groups and have not indicated a timeline of when youth performance programs will resume, if at all, this school year. This is not a decision that was taken lightly. Unfortunately, there is not even a trip for us to go on at this time.
A trip like this, where we perform at Disney World at the level our students, staff and community have come to expect, takes much practice. Virtual learning by choice, quarantine or due to illness challenges our ability to best prepare the ensembles as a whole. Other factors that contributed to the decision include not being able to guarantee social distancing on the 20 plus hour bus ride to and from Florida or in the hotel, quarantining students or chaperones if needed while on the trip would be difficult at best, and the reduced number of participating students under current circumstances.
Plans for another trip will be made at a later date. The administration will work on a way to refund the money paid for the trip in the most appropriate manner.
Sincerely,
David Schmid
Valders High School Principal
