Middle School Clubs & Activities
Battle of Books is a reading incentive program. Students come together in groups of four to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge of the books they have read competing against other teams. Selected books are chosen for the battle. The students start reading the books in late December and the battle starts in March.
Grades: 5th - 8th

FCCLA promotes personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation. The club meets the first Thursday of each month during Viking Time.

FFA is the premier youth organization preparing members for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture.

Forensics is an activity in which students speak and perform before a judge. The categories for their performances are: prose, poetry, storytelling, solo/duet acting, demonstration and readers theatre. Contests: There are two regional contests. Practices are before, during or after school and are usually fifteen to twenty minutes.
Grades: 7th & 8th

The Knowledge Bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic activity where teams will compete against those of other schools. Questions are based on the following topics: math, science, history, language skills, literature, music, geography and current events. One student and an alternate are chosen for each topic area. The students start preparing for the Knowledge Bowl in February. The competition is in March.

Memory book works to compile pictures and artwork in a book which students can purchase at a reasonable price to remember their middle school years. They meet throughout the year during Viking time.

The Peer Mentoring Program is open to 8th grade students who have met requirements and completed the application process. Students are matched with an elementary classroom and assist with students for a semester or the year.

Students perform alone or with a group and are judged on their musical performance. Music for the contest is distributed in January and the Music Festival is in March or April. Practices are during the school day and at home.

Students Promoting Acceptance Respect Kindness Leadership and Effort is a program designed to promote a positive school climate. Students are selected based on recommendations by teachers and staff.
Grades: 5th - 8th

Student council meets monthly during Viking time. They coordinate fundraisers, plan after school trips, host dances and help the middle school by purchasing things it needs.
