Welcome to Señorita Broder’s Web Page

¡Hola!

The purpose of the foreign language program of the Valders Area School  District is to provide to all students the opportunity to experience learning which will enable them to understand, speak, read and write a foreign language.

Additionally, students have the opportunity to gain greater sensitivity to other peoples’ attitudes and customs as well as become aware of increased global interdependence.  The students learn the culture and the language, both necessary keys to understanding.

I have been teaching at Valders since 1995.

Education:

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 1990

             Bachelor’s Degree- (B.A. Spanish)

Eastern University– St. David’s, Pennsylvania  1995

             Master’s of Education (Multicultural Education)

Language and Travel Experience:

I lived and studied in Seville, Spain for six months in college. Along with Mrs. Bednarski, I have organized trips for Valders students to Spain (4) and Costa Rica (3). I have also travelled extensively on my own to Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina and Puerto Rico.  In 2006 I also participated in a Global Environmental Teachings (GET) program through the UW-Stevens Point where I spent 2 weeks collaborating with Wisconsin and Puerto Rican teachers, travelling the island and experiencing the culture.

Awards:

GET Teacher of the Year 2008

Hobbies/Interests:

Travel is my passion and I have been fortunate to have travelled to five of the seven continents.  Australia and Antartica are left to conquer.  I am also passionate about environmental issues and have participated in two of the GET programs through UW-Stevens Point.  One program was a two week collaboration in Puerto Rico and the second was a three week collaboration in China.  Every time I travel I return a changed person...and for the better!

I look forward to helping your child develop as a global citizen by developing their Spanish language skills and their appreciation of the diversity in the world.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
